The English Department of Hoërskool Jeugland is run by eight highly
qualified teachers.All has been trained to teach both GET and FET phases.
The school has a reading centre which accommodates 60% of under achievers
per class in a lesson cycle to practise and improve their reading skill.
All Grade 8 learners are tested for their reading standard in this centre.
Thereafter Grade 8 – 10 learners have the opportunity to work on the
programme once per lesson cycle. Other learners are then given extra
exercises in the langusge at the same time.
The Reading Centre is open from 2 o’clock, Mondays to Thursdays, to assist
learners who under achieve in other subjects as well.
The English Department also has a TV monitor and DVD system in the same centre.
Learners are here given the opportunity to watch prescribed works on DVD or to
use it for other curriculum purposes.
